Billy Brunch, Dreta de l’Eixample

Billy Brunch is a cozy and nicely decorated restaurant located in Carrer de Bailèn, just a block away from Passeig de Sant Joan, a beautiful street which currently hosts some of the trendiest brunch places in Barcelona. We usually don’t go for brunch often since we have trouble waking up early during the weekends, but this place seemed to be very highly recommended so we decided to wake up at a decent hour in order to avoid queues outside the restaurant.

We went there on an early Saturday morning to try out their brunch menu and it was a nice experience.

Our opinions
Eeva – “Billy Brunch is a nice place to go for brunch. I had high expectations because of its popularity and their menu looked promising. Unfortunately my dish was a bit disappointing. I wanted to have something healthy and tasty but my dish didn’t have that much flavour. The egg was a bit overcooked, the tofu wasn’t that well seasoned and I was expecting more vegetables for that price. However their Red Detox juice was delicious and their coffee was good. We decided to order a dessert even though I was a bit sceptical but it was worth it! Their vegan cake was excellent and I would definitely order that again.

Rafa – I had the English breakfast and it was pretty solid. The ingredients used were good, the yolks were runny and the bacon and sausages were pretty tasty. I wasn’t too crazy about the beans but other than that I definitely enjoyed it. However, the real highlight was the chocolate cake we had as dessert, it was spongy and absolutely delicious. I also liked the atmosphere but I’d have to say that some of the seating options were a bit odd, we sat on a table which was more of a coffee table and my chair in particular was kind of uncomfortable.”

Pablo – “Lately, I’ve had a particular appetite for having poached eggs for brunch, and I was definitely not let down at Billy Brunch. Though I didn’t care much for the potatoes or the salad that came with them, which seemed more of an afterthought. The latte and the orange juice were enjoyable, as well as the dessert, which reminded Rafa and I of a Mexican snack cake we used to have during our childhood (back when it used to be good). The restaurant itself is charming, and seems overall Billy Brunch has done an amazing job with their image and marketing, which captures the more appealing side of the brunch concept. That being said, the menu and dishes are still on the conservative side, and don’t offer anything different. So it’s not surprising that it attracts the same crowd you see at every brunch place. For example, when we arrived, there was an Anglo-Saxon looking couple sitting at the table next to us, and after they left, an almost exact replica of the couple arrived (another blonde girl with another Caucasian boyfriend). Not to take away too much from Billy Brunch, as they’ve done great work with that they have, and it’s clearly a popular concept (they seem to be doing quite well), but there’s a uniqueness lacking in what they have to offer.”

Final Ratings
Eeva – 7.4 / Rafa – 7.9 / Pablo – 8.2

Consensus: 7.8 (Very Good)

It seems pretty expensive, or very expensive, on the quality-price ratio compared with all those great places you have reviewed with great meals or dinners (beer included) at Barcelona. Great pictures!
